Danville Chess Club Membership Information
The Danville Chess Club is neither a for profit nor a registered non-profit organization. The costs and procedures involved in assuming either standing would drain what resources we do have. Unlike either of those types of organizations we do not have any paid members or staff and noone makes a single dime from working for the club. Every penny of the money we take in through memberships is voluntary and none is required to be in the club, to play games, to learn from and with us, or to join us on outings and at events. However, we do offer additional perks for people who pay a nominal voluntary fee. We also account for those fees and use generally more money that we take in each year.
Membership Perks
Embroidered Apparell
Paying members receive a polo shirt with one of the two locally designed Danville Chess Club logos embroidered on the front. Any player who wants an additional shirt or one of the coats or hoodies can receive one without a membership by paying the cost of the shirt and embroidery and we will order it. Obvioulsy the more we order at a time the cheaper each unit.
Discounted USCF Memberships
In order to play in rated USCF events, such as the ones the Danville Chess Club puts on, it is necessary to have a USCF Membership. This can be obtained from the USCF official site and is typically $49 per year for an adult and $40 per year for a student or a senior. This membership also comes with a subscription to Chess Life Magazine. The Danville Chess Club in an official USCF Affiliate and we will gladly access the site and secure your membership for you. If you are also a paying member of the Danville Chess Club we will cover $20 of the cost of USCF membership.
Discounts on Entry to Danville Chess Club Events
Like many chess clubs we are USCF affiliated and we sponsor tournaments where you can play and earn rating points. We try to have three tournaments a year and we have two Club TD's on hand to make the tournaments official and to manage any disputes. These TDs have bought the necessary software to run a tournament and the rules books and guidelines. They have followed USCF guidelines and read the rule book in its entirety in order to be prepared to provide you with the best possible tournament experience. Because we have these TDs we can hold rated tournaments and when we do we offer cash rewards to the top three players in each section of the tourament. To offer these prizes we charge a fee of $35 to play in our events and promise to pay out at least 80% of the gross receipts. The remaining 20% we use to pay for water, paper and chess supplies and to offer a gratuity to our host. If you are a paying member of the Danville Chess Club you will receive a $5 discount on any Danville Chess Club Tournament
you enter.
Personal Games Archived On This Site
Each regular member, paying and non, will have their name included on our drop down hover menu of players. However, in order to have your own games placed up on the site for public view and comment you need to become a paying member (or play a paying member and find your games on that person's page) and transcribe your games in algebraic notation so that we can translate them to the PGN format used on this site and more widely on the internet generally. At least as of this moment there are no restrictions on access to the site or any of its parts, though only a few members will have access to the servers and the code.
